Chef’s favourite! Un-oaked, attractive honeyed nose with hints of lanolin and fresh citrus fruits. It’s crisp and tangy with good weight, slightly smoky emillon and grassy,

tangy citrus sauvignon.

7.  Kurt Angerer Gruner Veltliner ‘Kies, 2010 Austria 13%

A lovely fresh, zesty Gruner Veltliner. Stone fruits, citrus and white pepper on a fresh, inviting nose. Bright and crisp with still a touch of spritz, lovely tangy citrus with a touch of white peach and pepper.

8.  Cuvée A L’Ancienne Macon-Charnay, 2010 France 13%

Fresh citrus on the nose with a touch of honey and stone fruit. It's crisp on the palate with honeyed citrus, really lemony with some underlying creaminess from lees aging.

9.  Tabali Reserva Viognier, Chile 2010 13.5%

Rich aromas of citrus and dried apricot, with hints of candied fruit. On the palate floral,

honeyed and citrus flavours combine with a soft rounded texture and great purity.

10. Bodega Colomé Torrontes, Argentina 2010 13.5%

From 2 vineyards 50 and 120 years old. Growing at an altitude of between 2000 and 2300 metres above sea level. Has a fabulous nose of lychee and musk spice grapey too with ripe honeyed citrus, hints of tangerine and orange.

11. Ca Vit  Bottega Vinai Gewurztraminer, Italy 2010

Aromatic nose with lychee, flowers, ginger and citrus, tangy & fresh on the palate.

Lychee with citrus and peach/nectarine fruit, a touch of spice with good acidity and a lovely fresh tangy finish. Really delicious style and very drinkable.

The top scoring white wine from our tasting evening.

A brand new wine to the UK. Classic gooseberry, herbaceous nose. Crisp and tangy,

typical Marlborough Sauvignon, gooseberry with a touch of elderflower and mango on the palate, crisp fresh, dry and tangy.

Crisp, minerally and dry, though with plenty of fruit. Classic match to fish dishes.

14. Jean-Jacques Breton ‘La Clochette’ Sancerre 2010, France 12.5%

Nettley nose with green citrus. It's crisp and fresh with ripe citrus and hints of peach with classic flinty characters. Dry, fresh and even a touch of mineral.

15. Xanadu ‘Exmoor Drive’ 2009 Australia 13.5%

Wild yeast fermented and partly barrel fermented and aged. Stone fruits, citrus and toasty oak

on the nose. It's really classy with nectarine and citrus fruit,  nutty, creamy oak, leesy and long, complex and a delicious Chardonnay. Great balance.

16. Pouilly Fuissé, Domaine Saumaize-Michelin 2010, France 13%     

Brilliant new Domaine to us, this white Maconnais is an exemplary example; beautifully poised with hazelnut, toast, nectarine and a hint of zesty spice on the nose, leading to a delicious palate that has nutty stone fruits allied to a slightly creamy, long and minerally finish.

Juicy and vibrant with plenty of red and black cherry fruit.

32. The Beak Shiraz Grenache, Australia 2009 14.5%

A blend of 66% Shiraz and 34%Grenache. It’s a medium to full bodied wine with lots of juicy

plum and raspberry on the palate also, with black cherry, spice and creamy oak. Good acidity keeping it vibrant.

33. Gran Sasso Montepulciano d’Abruzzo 2010 Italy 13%

A much-maligned region of Italy, in the past guilty of producing some heinous wines this was a revelation medium to full in body yet packed with black cherry, olive, herbs and spice – lovely.

34. Emiliana ‘Adobe’ Carmenere, 2010 Chile 14%

Savoury black fruit perfectly balanced with sweet and toasted notes given by wood, violets and a touch of spice, the main characteristic of the Carmenere grape. On the palate, this wine has soft and well balanced black fruits, dense and juicy with a touch of herb and oak, ripe tannins on the finish making it long and juicy. Organic too

35. Caves Alianca Dao Reserva 2008, Portugal 13.5%

Made from the local Tinta Roriz, Alfrocheiro, Jaén, Touriga Nacional grapes.

Immediately juicy with lots of bramble fruits and polished aromatics.

Underlying savoury and herbal character with silky, supple black fruit.

Soft tannins with hints of meat and liquorice with vanilla on the elegant finish.

36. Septima Malbec 2010, Argentina 14%

Black cherry on the appealing nose with spice and oak It's rich and full and also really vibrant and fresh. Black cherry again with other berry fruits, dense and sweet with a good savoury backbone. Lovely weight integrated tannins and well judged touch of oak, acidity keeps it bright

37. Scotto Family Wines ‘Lodi Old Vines’ Zinfandel 2008/9, California 14%

Bright nose with raspberry, black cherry, spice and a hint of vanilla. It's really vibrant and juicy

with ripe raspberry to the fore cassis and cherry too, with spice and vanilla oak adding interest and softening the finish. It’s a really juicy mouthful, with good acidity.

38. Château La Freynelle Bordeaux 2009, France 12.5%              

An intense nose of spice, chocolate and plums. On the palate the wine is well balanced with ripe, spicy fruit and a savoury character. The finish is long and elegant.

39. Artesa Rioja Crianza 2008, Spain 13%

This is for those that like their Rioja in the old fashioned style. It has strong aromas of fig,

prune, herbs and cedary oak. The palate is spot on for a crianza with plenty of plummy soft

red fruit and an equal amount of savoury oak.

40. Bodegas Juan Gil Monastrell 2010, Spain 14%

Ripe Monastrell is aged for 4 months in French and American oak. Ripe cherry with some meaty, spicy notes on the nose. It's bright and fresh with lovely spicy berry fruits, meaty and spicy with some liquorice and ripe tannin.

Lovely Cotes du Rhone, a classical blend of Grenache, Mourvedre and Syrah; punchy and full of sweet red forest fruits with pepper, a hint of meat and a dash of jam – simply gorgeous.

42. Man Vintners Pinotage 2010, South Africa 14%

Bright red and black cherry fruits with plum and creamy oak on the nose. It's full, dense and rich. Meaty with lovely berry fruits, spice and again a lick of creamy oak.

43. Kurt Angerer ‘Barrique’ Zweigelt 2008, Austria 13.5%

This 100% Zweigelt is packed with bright cherry fruit with a touch of spice and oak too.

Not unlike a really dense cru Beaujolais from a great vintage; bright and very appealing.

44. Masseria Pietrosa Salice Salentino 2010, Italy 13%

A really delicious, bright, modern Puglian red made from Negroamaro 90% and Malvasia Nera. Perfumed, bitter-sweet nose with chocolate and creamy oak. Similar palate with bramble fruits,chocolate, cinnamon spice and a slight herbal note too. Top scoring red and overall winner on the night of our wine tasting.

45. Kim Crawford Pinot Noir 2010, New Zealand 14%

Quite smokey on the nose with cherry and raspberry fruit. On the palate it exhibits lovely fresh red berry fruit, plum and cherry with smokey oak and crunchy tannins. It's a really good mid weight Pinot with lovely fruit. Very appealing

46. Magpie Estate ‘The Mixed Thing’ 2008, Australia 14%

Claimed 2nd place red in our ‘choose our winelist tasting’ So the blend is 25% Cinsault,

25% Cabernet Franc, 25% Sangiovese, 12.5% Tannat and 12.5% Dolcetto! Blackberry, cherry,

strawberry and cranberry on the nose, big and juicy on the palate with lovely ripe tannins and

good acidity keeping the wine fresh. Not heavy and with lovely sweet fruits making it really quite easy drinking.

47. Château Roudier Montagne-Saint-Emilion, France 2006, 13% 

A Classic Bordeaux Blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. it has a dark

inky colour with a delicious Port-like nose of intense, rich, dark fruit. This is a sensuous wine with sweet, creamy forest fruits and earthy, floral and chocolate overtones.

The tannins are big and ripe, completely subsumed within the enormous fruit and long finish.

48. Domaine Grand Veneur Chateauneuf-du-Pape 2007, France 14.5%

One of the leading lights in Chateauneuf, Grand Veneur produced a magnificent 2007, from what was widely acknowledged as a fabulous year in the southern Rhone.

This sensational red is full or ripe & juicy red and black fruits with spice, pepper, and

cassis on the multi-layered palate.

55. Ancora Chiaretto, 2010 Italy 12%

Bright strawberry pin hue. Deliciously aromaticwith wild strawberry fruit characters.

Light and crisp on the palate with ripe fruit balanced by tangy acidity.

Really delicious, fabulous value rose made from Barbera.

56. Bodegas Borsao Rosado 2010, Spain 13.5%

Made from 100% Garnacha (grenache) the skins see 6 hours maceration before being removed yet contributea lovely vibrant colour. Aromas of strawberryjam and raspberry, but just off dryand easy going, with hints of soft red fruit on the palateand balanced acidity.

A little more body than the Italian.

60. Mionetto Legatura Rose Frizzante NV Italy 12%

Dangerous...seriously, be warned: one bottle of this gorgeous frothy pink wine rarely suffices. Just off-dry, with creamy soft bubbles and lots of strawberry/plum fruit it is a party starter like no other.

Deliciously light, and gently sparkling, this is an Italian classic. Delightful as an aperitif.

Ripe Barossa Shiraz spends 12 months in oak prior to 2 years ageing in the bottle.

Sweet plum and cassis on the nose, hints of Christmas cake too.

It's rich on the palate with berry fruits, black cherry and plum too.

the quality doesn’t go up at the same time.

This is dear Winston’s favourite Champagne house, and he knew a thing or two.
